Artists have used the unclothed figure to represent knowledge vs. ignorance, morality vs. sin, beauty vs. vulgarity. Using the Barnes's extensive collection of figure paintings, compare and contrast nudes by C├ęzanne, Courbet, Degas, Matisse, Modigliani, Pascin, Renoir, and Toulouse-Lautrec and discuss public reaction to nudes, the artist's intentions, and the relationship between artist and model. Includes a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
