Elizabeth McLean, author and garden historian, lectures on how we are now so used to getting plants from all over the world that we tend to take it for granted: roses from South America, Granny Smith apples from Australia. But this was not always the case. From the familiar lilac to the exotic Dove tree and the vibrant blue poppy, interpid plant explorers have historically risked their lives to enrich our gardens.
