Tod Williams and Billie Tsien’s design for the Barnes Foundation on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway continues Philadelphia’s rich tradition of architectural innovation. This course explores the connections between the Barnes and the path forged by Louis I. Kahn, among others. In the Barnes Foundation’s tradition of direct experiences, students will visit the buildings of Kahn, Mitchell/Giurgola, Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown, and more. Through these first-hand observations, students will consider how the new Barnes Foundation continues the conversation among great buildings in Philadelphia.
