This year-long, two-part course is sometimes referred to as the final year of the Barnes sequence. Students may enroll in one or both of the 14-week semesters.
We are currently accepting registration for Part II (Spring 2013, 14 weeks) of this two-part course: Students engage in discussions and research as they develop an original thesis and final paper based on subjects related to the collection.

    About Ensembles:
One of the immediately striking aspects of the Barnes Foundation is the unique ensemble arrangement of the collection objects. Each wall is stacked with a diverse array of works—Eastern and Western; sacred and secular; fine art and craft; old masters and the avant garde. Albert Barnes created the ensembles, yet he did not reveal all of what they expressed and why he chose the relationships he did. Led by instructor John Gatti, students will explore the Foundation collection and discuss the aesthetic, symbolic, and poetic languages of the ensembles.
